In comparison, my Harley costs 120$ per year to maintain as it needs no valve adjustment, no chain adjustment and only oil changes.The newest Monster or an MT-09 are probably too much bike for a beginner, both are 100+ HP. But take a look at an MT-07 or a Monster 796 / 797 (the one with the 803 cc aircooled engine). Both those bikes have around 70 HP, and "friendly" engine characteristics. V2 more mid range grunt.
